Field study wraps up with major finds at TAS 1999
The 1999 Texas Archeological Society Field School closed with awards to Susan Leonard of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce and Joe San Miguel of the Del Rio News-Herald. Dr. Mike Collins highlighted discoveries across Seminole Canyon Evans Creek Castle Canyon and Devil's River areas, noting a record 30 by 20 mile study area and preserved features including charcoal hearths wickiup rings and a hot rock cooking demonstration. The Del Rio Housing Authority sponsors Patsy Torres for a drug free concert on August 6 1999 at the Val Verde County Fairgrounds with opening acts Yesenia Menchaca and Laurita Aguirre. School board to weigh nepotism policy this Monday

Transportation department keeps Queen City moving
Del Rio's MIT mobility impaired transportation program operates from the Regional Transportation Center on Main Street led by Elsa Reyes. The service, three drivers plus a weekend worker, averages 100 trips and 30 miles daily with support from the medical community and grant funds. The center, opened in 1994 after rehabilitating a former depot, serves Amtrak and multiple bus lines, enabling transfers and ADA vehicle upgrades.
