Plans for a July Fourth weekend gala in Del Rio include a charreada event, religious observances, and entertainment as part of a centennial celebration. The program, featuring the State Congrand Championship Charreada at Trienza Cuatro Palmas, aims to attract contestants from across the state with prep work and additional stables in place.
Los Angeles AP report that Patricia Hearst’s two former SLA companions William and Emily Harris begin trial without Hearst, with her likely influence on testimony as the sole female defendant in the May 1974 violence. Harris lawyer Wainglass claims Hearst’s firing weapon and dire danger claims. Jury selection expected to begin as scheduled.
The San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District holds a Monday 7:30 p.m. budget session at the district tax office to review preliminary projections for the 1976/77 year. Supt. O B Poole and finance director Walter Block discuss needs, goals, and potential cuts based on campus requests and a 1975 survey.
Curly Evans displayed rare exquisite miniature bird sculptures at the Devas Arts and Crafts Fair in Kerrville where he joined about 250 artists. He earned sales and commissions and earned an invitation to return next year.
A 7 a.m. Fourth of July service at San Felipe Park features Rev. Joe Watts of First Baptist Church delivering the main message with Rev. C. Jordan Mann of First United Methodist Church as program chair. A community youth choir performs The Battle Hymn of the Republic and other numbers with Bob Jones directing. a band accompanies. Additional speakers to be announced.
Partly cloudy and warm weather continues through Monday with southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph. Sunday will see low in the mid-60s and highs in the mid-80s. Saturday's high reached 92. Sunrise at 6 44 am and sunset at 8 46 pm.
Amistad elevation this morning stood at 1116.42 feet, unchanged since Friday. Water depth at Amistad Dame measured 216.42 feet with storage at 3,467,962 acre feet. Water surface covered 64,373 acres while downstream flow was 1,650 cubic feet per second, compared with Friday's 1,210 efs.
Porter F. Steffey, native of Quanah Texas, raised seven children with help from his second wife Janice and his late wife Wanda’s family.
