New York stocks opened mostly lower after a mixed prior session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average resisted the decline, rising 3.58 points to 1,872.52 in the opening hour.

An offshore earthquake near Zihuatanejo measured 4.5 on the Richter scale and caused no reported damage. The epicenter lay 241 miles southwest of Mexico City, with officials noting no physical or material harm.

Adele Aulgur 89 native of Brackettville died Saturday in a Uvalde hospital. Rites Friday at 10 a.m. at St Andrew's Episcopal Church Brackettville with burial on the Aulgur Ranch. She was born February 13 1897 in Brackettville and was a teacher. Survivors include daughters Elise Huntsman Anna Legg Ernestine Lopez sister Else Sauer eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friday reports include a southbound collision in a private lot with Randolph Abby and James Marin as drivers. Another crash involved Carl Merkee hitting a parked car owned by Geraldine Ward Payment. A separate incident saw Juana Vielma at a red light with Julio Garcia backing a city water truck into her lane. Theft claims involve Andre Zavala reporting an electric frying pan, AM FM cassette player, and coffee maker worth $269 stolen from 413 E Bowie St between 6 am June 11 and 2 pm Friday, and John Pegram reporting a stolen cassette deck and speakers worth $250 from his vehicle between 4:30 am and 2 pm Sunday.
