House panel votes to repeal investment tax credit
The House Ways and Means Committee voted to repeal the 7 percent investment tax credit for business investments effective April 20 1969. Viet withdrawal leaves 16000 still in Far East area
About 16000 of the first 25000 U S troops slated for withdrawal from Vietnam will stay in the Far East or Hawaii. The Pentagon disclosed 8000 Marines to Okinawa and 7400 soldiers to Hawaii. Roughly 400 Marines head to Iwakuni Japan and 1200 Navy men board ships. 8000 Army troops remain to return to the United States with 2000 reservists and National Guardsmen. The 2nd Brigade of the 9th Infantry will be inactivated later and division HQ will stay in Hawaii.

Climbers Stranded on Mt Rainier Trigger Rescue Effort
Five experienced climbers were reported stranded on a steep rib at about 12 000 feet on Mt Rainier Monday night. A four man team reached the 90 foot level by helicopter and began an overnight ascent. Additional rescue climbers were planned for today as weather remained clear and the stranded group had full camp equipment.

Firemen Called To Two Alarms In Del Rio
The Del Rio Fire Department answered two minor calls Monday. At 4 05 p m a kitchen floor fire at 109 Frausto home of Hortencio Perez caused extensive floor damage and likely started by spilled lighter fluid. Nine volunteers and four paid members responded. A second alarm at 10 35 am reported a blaze at 407 Linda Vista home of Jajedes Padilla Jr with smoke and an explosion reported by neighbors. Fire damaged a bedroom closet mattress and nearby items. Twenty two volunteers and three paid regulars helped extinguish the fire. exact damage amount not yet determined.

The Defense Department identified Texan Guadala lupe S. Prado Jr. Army Special 4 as killed in action in Vietnam. He was husband of Elva Prado of 536 South Francis Street, Mercedes, and his death was announced by officials in Washington.

Del Rio High School reported 54 students with perfect attendance for the year ending May 31. Del Rio Independent School District board voted to designate Welloo Bank and Trust as depository for school funds replacing the present depository Debitage National Bank. The decision followed bids from Bank and Trust and Debitage National Bank with the former offering a flat rate and participation loans at low cost for excess funds. The four-hour session, held September 1 1969 to August 31 1971, ended with unanimous approval after questions from Dr Newby and J Cauthorn.

Del Rio Independent School District approved the 1969-70 calendar at the June board meeting. Faculty meet August 27 orientation August 28 registration August 29 with classes starting September 2 and ending May 26. Holidays include Labor Day Thanksgiving Christmas and spring break.
