Six Indictments Involving Texas Education Agency Officials
AUSTIN Texas Mante el Garza director of the Texas Good Neighbor Commission and three others were freed after posting bond on six Travis County grand jury indictments accusing them of accepting TEA grant funds for a sham study. Garza and his wife Evangeline surrendered with Sharon Flippen and WL Jones. Robert Avina and his wife Josephine were also indicted. The scheme involved a $50 000 study of educational needs in South Texas prepared by the Greater South Texas Cultural Basin Commission for the TEA at a reported $642 per page.
