Medina attends a first pre trial hearing today as part of a local schedule of community events. A maternity conference is set for Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Health Department at the San Felipe Neighborhood Facility with local physicians rotating attendance.
Dr. Sosa closes office at 217 E Martin Del Rio and relocates to Belding near Grand Rapids Michigan. He joins Sonia Montcalm Medical Society in Greenville and United Memorial Hospital staff with surgical privileges, plans to begin practice July 1, transferring records on request.
In Austin, UT professor Dr. George Sanchez testified that segregating students by ethnicity harms learning and resists Anglo culture. He described cross-town busing as a tool the Justice Department seeks to enforce, citing Metz and Zavala schools as historically segregated and arguing integrated schooling is superior for democratic socialization.
Civilian lawyer F Lee Bailey asked a military judge to dismiss charges against Army Captain Ernest L Medina alleging he killed 102 villagers during the 1968 My Lai raid. Bailey filed motions at the first pretrial hearing before Col Kenneth Howard.
David Ochoa 20 a San Antonio native and Southwest Texas State University senior joins the Middle Rio Grande Development Council as a summer intern. He will draft a nine county area financial report and earn academic credit while undergoing periodic faculty evaluation. He may attend conferences in Austin and Memphis and will work under Dr. Francis Rich.
Laughlin Air Force Base joins four bases in Texas assisting a Bureau of Reclamation rainmaking effort. Weather radar from Laughlin helps identify suitable clouds within 200 miles for seeding while WC 130 aircraft deliver silver iodide dispensers to induce rainfall.
Voters in Comstock and Langtry back merging Langtry common schools with the Comstock Independent School District. The overall vote is 47 for to 4 against with Langtry 27 0 and Comstock 20 to 4. The merger starts in 1971 72 with transportation arranged.
Timothy Strell, 22, charged with murder, was taken to San Antonio for psychiatric exams. Deputy Calvin Wallen and Trooper Arthur Gonzales escorted Littrell to Dr. Ernesto Fernandez. The murder charge stems from the November 1970 death of 4 year old Bobby Lavonn Ice. Trial set for July 6 in the 63rd District Court.
Meteorology Research Inc reports success from cloud seeding in the San Angelo region with silver iodide. Ten seeding missions Tuesday produced brief rainfall in El Dorado and Big Lake, but overall Texas showers complicate attribution to seeding. The firm participates in Operation Tea Drop with four aircraft to be deployed further.
The 61st annual Mexican Baptist Departmental Convention concludes Thursday with more than 600 pastors and laymen attending. Afternoon events include a Music Conference led by George Sepulveda and a Bible lecture by Rudy Camacho. Plenary sessions nightly at First Baptist Church, Del Rio. Amistad Dam metrics noted for water levels.
