An all male Mobile Circuit Court jury awarded Mrs. Ethel W Cotham a share of the late T Shannon Hunter's estate, about 120,080 dollars from his 600,000 dollar net estate. Hunter died in January 1945 at 62. The case centered on a claimed one fifth share for services and personal support Cotham testified to meeting Hunter in 1928, quitting work in 1940, and providing him time, gifts, meals, and companionship. Cross examination cited intimate relations and a 1944 will dispute. Attorneys for Mrs Hunter indicated the will was immoral and improper.
Harbor Springs Mich June 14 The excursion steamer Greater Detroit spent seven hours stuck on a mud bank in Lake Michigan harbor before Coast Guard breakers freed it amid high winds and rough seas. About 700 Detroit businessmen aboard the ship for the Board of Commerce cruise and local residents waited as the vessel was refloated and set course for Benton Harbor scheduled to dock Monday for a show for crippled children onboard.
An American made WAC Corporal rocket was fired at White Sands Proving Ground New Mexico Thursday witnessed by 300 West Point cadets at Fort Bliss. The rocket smaller than German V2s and another V2 firing postponed until safety devices are perfected to prevent another runaway one near Juarez Mexico. Colonel Harold R Turner said firing was purely routine and altitudes reached were not immediately determined.
LONG WEACH Calif June 14 The Industrializing of Saudi Arabia will begin this summer with the shipment from this harbor of more than a million tons of agtel pipe destined for the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean. E. C. Austin purchasing and traffic manager of Arabian American Oil Co said it marks the first of series of consignments over the next three years that could create a new industrial kingdom in Arabia. The pipe costs well over a half billion dollars and will be moved by Isthmian Steamship Co in over 80 vessels on a 120 day round trip of about 25 000 miles. The Arabian American Co represents Standard Oil of California and the Texas Co. This is only the start with orders placed for other manufactured goods and materials in the exploitation program.
Hollywood June 13 Rudy Chis added Mento Llanes to his win list with a seventh round technical knockout at Loghin Stadium. Llanes was sent to his corner after a bad cut over his left eye. Both fighters are Los Angeles residents.
