Billy Bowers addressed a special Del Rio Motel Association gathering at the Red Top Inn in lieu of the regular meeting. He reviewed windstorm damage to stalls at Val Verde County track and how it affects the racing season and outlined possible help from the Rodeo Association, county and city to replace the stalls. He urged motel owners and community members to assist.

In Texas a federal probe targets a Nunley led cattle sale tied to brucellosis testing gaps. Brucellosis causes abortions. missing back tags on cattle shipped from Texas to Florida sparked the inquiry. Lindsey calls the case retaliation while Nunley seeks a permanent injunction against the quarantine in Austin court.
SAN ANTONIO AP reports a proposed warning ticket plan for juveniles would tax petty crimes to deter escalation. Pat Garza, head of the DA's juvenile section, warns that minor offenses can lead to bigger trouble if youths feel they can evade consequences. The program, discussed by a juvenile board of judges, aims to steer youthful offenders away from harsher paths.
Donald R. James, 53, of Carrollton Texas, owner of Arkansas grain elevators, pleaded innocent to a 44 count indictment alleging mail wire and bank fraud over 2.9 million dollars in loans obtained with false collateral records. He posted 5000 dollar bond and was released. The Arkansas elevator collapse led to contempt charges against Wayne Cryts of Paxico Missouri who resisted a bankruptcy court order by removing 31500 bushels of soybeans from an elevator owned by James Brothers Grain Co of Corning Arkansas.
Death notices detail services for Thomas Isaac Ike Fite 25 who died Friday in Amarillo. Rites are set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist North with burial in Weetlawna Cemetery. Fite a Del Rio High School graduate 1977 and West Texas State College 1981, survived by brothers Petey and Aaron, sister Cinds, grandparents and extended family. Memorials for a scholarship in his name were established by the Amarillo YMCA Little League Umpires Association. A second obituary notes Tagle with a Rosary tonight and funeral arrangements in Comstock, detailing siblings and nieces.
