Five Del Rio staff join regional training program
Five staff members from Garfield Elementary and Lamar Junior High join 50 educators in a year long Region XV Education Service Center training program in San Angelo. They will study teaching handicapped students in regular classrooms at Angelo State University during the June 1 July 10 summer session guided by Dr. Verna Mae Crutchfield with UT NM State U and Kettering consultants assisting. The project is funded by the U S Office of Education under the Education Professions Development Act of 1967 through Consortium SF.

Funeral rites held for Lloyd E. Young brother of Quemado men
Services for Lloyd E. Young brother of Marvin Young and Leonard Young of Quemado were held June 3 at Colorado City Church of Christ with Tom Franklin officiating. Interment followed at Colorado City Cemetery with Riker and Son Funeral Home in charge. Born December 16, 1911 in Lovington New Mexico, he died June 1 in a Colorado City hospital after a lingering illness. Survived by widow Ruby, two daughters Dorothy Watkins and Virgie Renfro, seven brothers including Marvin and Leonard Young, and two sisters. The family attended the Del Rio News Herald published in Del Rio Texas.

Five killed, five injured in Laredo highway crash
A car traveling from Frisco to Laredo left Interstate 35 six miles north of Laredo, flew seven feet and overturned into a culvert killing Julia Riojas Elvira Torres Concepcion Gonzalez Sara Garcia and Concepcion Gonzalez all 23 or younger. Five others including Rosendo Gonzalez 18 and Vidal Torres Trejo 37 were hospitalized after the crash and authorities say the driver may have fallen asleep. Three babies were reported among those aboard.

Two sons of Manuel R. and Mrs. Polanco of Del Rio received bachelor of science degrees at a Sul Ross State University commencement in Alpine. Robert Lee Polanco majored in elementary education and Orlando Aluan Polanco in biology. Both are San Felipe High School graduates under contract to teach in the San Antonio School District.

AUSTIN Av traffic deaths in Texas are down 2 percent from the same period last year according to the Department of Public Safety. The DPS counts show 1,336 deaths in 1,109 accidents, versus 1,861 deaths in 1,106 fatal accidents a year earlier.
