Stocks Rise on Wall Street as Rates Fall at Noon

New York stocks pushed higher as open-market rates eased. The Dow Jones industrial average advanced 23.82 to 1,861.95 by midday on Wall Street. More gainers than losers, about four to one, led the gains among NYSE issues.

Kinchlow to be honored at Grace UMC service

Longtime Grace United Methodist Church member Rev Harvey Kinchlow will be honored for twenty six years of service at an 11 o clock worship Sunday. A reception by the congregation follows the service at Grace UMC in Del Rio.

Blood Drive at First Baptist Church Saturday

Robert and Becky Dimas will be here over Father's Day weekend. BLOOD DONORS will contribute at First Baptist Church Avenue 6 Fellowship Hall Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The need is at least 35 units. JOSE VALLEJO of Del Rio underwent major surgery Tuesday at the Andy Murphy V.A. Hospital in San Antonio and is reported to be doing well after a month-long hospitalization. MARIO PAZ of Memorial Sixth Grade School says reports have been mailed. students lacking a stamped self-addressed envelope should check with the school. Tonight at 6 o'clock a marching band meeting at 1411 8 Main St. Juan Nanez invites musicians of any age. The National Park Service presents Roadside Flowers of Amistad at Governor's Landing Campground tonight at 8:45 weather permitting. The program is free. Moore Park swimming pool opens Tuesday through Sunday 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.. closed Mondays. Women's Aglow meets tonight at 7 at Del Rio National Bank. Alicia M. Hernandez will present, with music by Nancy Van Zandt. Public invited.

Arrests for theft and possession in Val Verde County

Tuesday Oviedo Perez Tovar of Mexico was arrested on Garza Lane charged with motorcycle theft from Farley Lane. He had stolen motorcycles chain saws swim gear. items returned except swim fins and mask. Contact Deputy Larry Pope at 774-2733 to claim. Jose Torres Mondragon 22 of Ciudad Acuna arrested at Port of Entry for marijuana possession and jailed in lieu of 5000 bond. Roger Rice 19 arrested after Grand Jury indictment for delivery of marijuana, jailed in lieu of 5000 bond.

Burglaries Reported at Local School and Vacant Trailer

Edna Blanks of the San Felipe Del Rio district says folding door and two windows were busted at 1100 Avenue C causing about 120 dollars in damage between 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday. W H Baker reports a vacant trailer burglarized between April 15 and June 3. Missing items include a color TV, flatware, microwave, electric can opener, coffee pot, fishing gear, and cookware totaling about 753 dollars.

Potential Sul Ross closure studied by Texas higher ed panel

Uvalde officials report the Select Committee on Higher Education is reviewing options for restructuring state higher education which could include closing Sul Ross State University. The memo asks for analysis of all options, including merging with Texas Tech or converting the Uvalde Study Center to a branch, with no recommendations yet. Officials caution past studies suggest closure would reduce access and no major study-center change is currently planned. Contact Dr Frank W. Abbott at 512 278 3339 for information.

Last rites for Frank Factor held in Oak Lawn Memorial Park

Frank Factor, 33, died in San Antonio on June 7. A graveside service at Oak Lawn Memorial Park Saturday at 10 a.m. will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Lonnie Green with burial by Humphreys-Doran Funeral Home. Military honors were given by the San Felipe Del Rio Honor Guard. Raptor was born in Del Rio on July 19, 1952. C. L. Perkins former Del Rio resident died in Sun City, Arizona on Wednesday. Rites for Perkins will be held Saturday in El Paso with burial there. He lived in Del Rio seven years, worked 46 years at El Paso Natural Gas Co., where he was senior vice president and director before retiring in 1974. Survivors include his wife Louise, son Bud Perkins Jr., daughters Carolyn Williams and Jackie Cassidy, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
