Police Chief Ed Wallace says the Del Rio Police Department is not terminating alarm monitoring. He states there is no contract and he has asked City Hall to review liability and whether a formal contract is needed before continuing or altering the service.
Del Rio plans a $76,000 farmer's market as the initial step to revitalize Brown Plaza in the San Felipe area. The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce endorsed the project to pursue a federal grant via the Neighborhood Self Help Organization. The market aims to spur private investment, support local growers, host arts and flea events, and anchor broader redevelopment with a feasibility study due in September.
Del Rio officials will send a HUD letter approving a San Felipe Del Rio Development Corp grant application for 125000 self help funds 78000 of which would develop a marketplace and stalls around Brown Plaza to attract traffic and support local businesses. Trost outlined a city land lease for a 40 block horseshoe revitalization with city aid and volunteer effort to improve civic activity and investment chances.

The U S Fish and Wildlife Service hosts a 7 p m public hearing at Del Rio Civic Center to gather comments on preserving the Devil's River minnows habitat. The session may discuss listing the fish as endangered and designating lower Devil's River and San Felipe Creek as critical habitats to safeguard their survival.
Sgt Hector Hernandez of Del Rio joins 2000 soldiers at Fort Chaffee aiding Cuban refugees arriving from Florida. He translates, assists with forms, feeds and shelters refugees, many with little or no belongings after perilous sea journeys. Hernandez, a Fort Sill veteran, serves long shifts and plans a Army career.
