Hand severed in tug-of-war at Gold Bond picnic

Stanley Dewane Farris, 21, lost a hand when a rope tug of war at a Gold Bond company picnic tore it off. Paramedics stopped the bleeding and he was taken to Erlanger Medical Center in fair condition. doctors said the injury was too severe to save the hand.

Ex judge dies Susan Cottle Whistler

Former Val Verde County Judge Sergio Gonzalez died Friday at 90 leaving a legacy of service. He helped build the Alice Mae Fitzpatrick Building annex to the courthouse and the Dink Wardlaw Agricultural Complex. The county jail was mentioned in 1993 records.

Duties keep judge grounded in VAL VERDE county

County Judge Ray Kirkpatrick, 71, has been a pilot for over 50 years and still flies monthly, seeking daily flight time. He built three planes, logged more than 35,000 hours, and began flying as a boy after his father supported his dream. He earned a pilot’s license in 1940, trained as a civilian instructor, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1944, flew in Europe and the Philippines during WW2, then transported postwar and through Korea with Braniff Airlines.
