The Amistad Association of Life held the Tri City meet with 28 attendees as underwriters named Paredes president.
Mrs. W E Riggs hosted guests from Del Rio and Iraan with family visits from Eagle Pass. Teen Town Quemado hosts a 9 p.m. dance to raise funds for a lawn mower. Del Rio youngsters head to Camp John Knox with Rev William Caldwell. Bridge winners listed for Roswell Hotel event. Four spaniel puppies offered free to good homes. Tri city Underwriters meeting at Holiday Inn features Robert Biechlin speaker and awards to Younts and others.
President Nixon announced the federal government will encourage but not require suburban communities to open housing to the poor of all races. He stressed limits of integration powers and offered no new programs to coerce or leverage aid to promote widespread minority housing in suburbs.

Edwards case on Stewart Brothers hog herd near Barksdale on Highway 55. Total 46 Texas and national cases in 1971. Mission laboratory confirms another sample with missing return address. Producers urged to attach identification to samples and contact Mission Lab.
Four H Club boys and their fathers will depart for the Dolan Falls encampment on Devil's River June 18 for a three day outing with about 40 registrants. Activities include fishing horseshoes and wildlife observation as they travel from Val Verde Fair Grounds at 7 30 a m. The event ends after a fish fry on Sunday with girls and their mothers visiting the camp.
The Weather Office reports a light drizzle since 4 44 a m totaling .01 inch of rain with a 20 percent precipitation chance this afternoon and tonight. June total reaches .03 inch with showers continuing intermittently through the day.
An earthquake struck the Dominican Republic and Caribbean regions shortly before 8 a.m. damaging four buildings in Santo Domingo including a church landmark. A boy and a 34 year old man reportedly broke their legs leaping from a second story building. no deaths were immediately reported.
Texas Education Agency selected Hector Barrera to work in the 1971 Interstate Cooperation Project from June 3 to August 18. He will coordinate migrant pupil programs in Idaho while remaining a migrant teacher at Del Rio Junior High School and director of its adult basic education program. Barrera and his family reside in Del Rio.
Seven contestants register for Miss Del Rio pageant to be held June 29 at the Del Rio Civic Center. Deadline to enter is June 15. Organizer Mrs. H A Rountree notes proceeds support the Del Rio Little League. The winner serves a year and appears in parades and at events in the Del Rio News Herald calendar. Contestants include Kay Pierce Mary Lou Maldonado Robin Haltom Claudia Puda Tomi Smith Debbie Davenport Ellen Faz. Eligible contestants must be high school juniors or seniors. college students are ineligible.
Slain deputy Ignacio Fena Garcia to receive full military honors at Brackettville Cemetery. Rosary held at family home. graveside rites at 6 p.m. with a Laughlin AFB honor guard firing a three round volley. Garcia, 75, served 20 years and was a World War I veteran. Survivors include his widow Victoria and three children.
