In New York, the stock market slid further today though losses eased from Monday. The Dow Jones industrial average stood at 1,828.71 at noon, down 11.44, with decliners leading gainers by about 95 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Pan American Round Table of Del Rio Hilo 1998 87 season officers to be installed at a Friday noon luncheon at San Felipe Country Club with Kay Miller of Eagle Pass installing and members with perfect attendance to receive recognition. Ordination to the Diaconate at St James Episcopal Friday 730 pm public invited. Del Rio Chapter 53 to meet 730 pm in bank directors room election of officers and drive for Forget Me Not July 4 week. nine wives already enrolled in auxiliary with ten more needed.
The Columbus Club meets for officer elections at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Highway 90 East off Hamilton Lane with refreshments. Val Verde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary gathers at 7 in the hospital cafeteria annex. Eastern Star Past Matrons and Patrons meet Wednesday at 7:30 in the Masonic Temple on Bedell with hostesses and refreshments. Lose Weight Fuel Great Club hosts a 7 o clock meeting featuring Dr David Kartzin and Norman Dignard who shed 300 pounds. Emergency Medical Services Supervisor Jack Howley recalls the shift from funeral homes delivering patients in station wagons to modern mobile intensive care units. Since 1971 the system evolved with carryalls, modular ambulances, and paramedic training, culminating in five ambulances capable of mobile intensive care and two-way rapid response. The city reports fewer runs but more life threatening calls, with a rising role for immediate in-ambulance treatment.
Ten doctors were suspended from Val Verde Memorial Hospital on June 1 for lack of $500,000 liability and malpractice insurance. Reinstated are L. C. Salinas MD, Leland Gerde MD, Manuel Martinez MD, Richard Good DPM, Jesse Juardo MD, Perry Nadig MD and others. Agustin Luz MD, Larry Lindenschmidt DDS, and William Crouch DDS remain suspended. Dr Debra Groom resigned before the deadline.

Del Rio police halted a burglary in progress at Shoppers World, arresting a 19 year old armed with a butterfly knife and a 15 year old juvenile after officers arrived shortly after midnight. Bond for Emilio Luna was set at 10,000 by JP Michael Denton. juvenile charges are pending.

Dallas Pauline Franks 65 died Monday in Val Verde Memorial Hospital. Rites Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Brackettville Methodist Church with burial there. Survived by husband Darrell Franks of Brackettville, son Darrell Paul Franks Jr. of Del Rio, mother Dallas Rosénow of Carta Valley, granddaughter Mendy Elizabeth Franks, grandson Waylon Paul Franks of La Pryor, Texas. Arnoldo Gomez 52 died Monday at Laughlin AFB hospital. Rites Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Park. Don's Funeral Chapters directing.
