In San Angelo Texas the Communications Workers of America ends a three week strike at General Telephone. Pickets will stop Wednesday with members returning to work Sunday by seniority. full staff back by June 30 in four states. Ratification ballots arrive by mail and are expected to take two to three weeks.
Del Rio man George Joseph Bamford Jr. was found dead Sunday evening in his apartment above 501 E Greenwood St. Autopsy results expected in about three weeks as authorities consider possible strangulation or natural causes. No signs of foul play noted. bruising on the body could be from a fall. landlord Don Pass reported the discovery. Bamford’s death follows a prior incident at the same address involving an elderly resident.
Amistad elevation this morning stood at 1109.35 feet, down 10 from Monday. Water depth at Amistad Dam was 209.35 feet, decreased by 0.10. Water storage reached 3,031,739 acre feet, a fall of 5,821. Surface area 59,108 acres, down 79. Downstream flow remained steady at 4,100 cubic feet per second.
Kinney County commissioners accept the resignation of YACC administrative aide Joyce Hooten after she alleged political bias in hiring for the Young Adult Conservation Corps program. Director David G Luna defended the process, noting hiring followed TDCA rules and alphabetical order. the board voted to keep Luna as director and rejected replacing him.
Brackettville mayor Chris Gomez and Councilman Louis Dimery clashed over seating during the city council meeting. Dimery refused to swap places and Gomez warned of possible police dismissal. Sandoval suggested delaying final seating until policy details are reviewed while the agenda moved forward.
