Dimmit County Judge Larry Speer warned Val Verde County to declare its intent on joining or be ejected from the Middle Rio Grande Development Council. A 10 day deadline was set after Speer wrote that inaction would count as withdrawal, amid ongoing disputes over funds and leadership.

A Del Rio bus trip to El Paso was delayed when a Continental Trailways coach stopped at the police station to investigate a stabbing on Ave F at Kettle Ankake House. Ernesto Garcia, 30, was arrested amid reports the Brownsville man stabbed a fellow passenger, Glen Sanders, who was in good condition at Val Verde Memorial Hospital.
