A male Black Setwing dragonfly, common to south Texas, was photographed Saturday along San Felipe Creek in south Del Rio. Known as a fierce aerial predator, it preys on mosquitoes and other insects.

Methodist, Val Verde work together after takeover

Frausto recalls being in San Felipe High’s first graduating class
Frausto, 97, recalls walking the stage in 1932 as San Felipe High’s lone first class graduate. The school opened in 1930 and later became San Felipe Memorial Middle School on West Garza Street. Other founding classmates were Antonio Morales Jr, Guillermo Calderon Jr, Elida Garza, Estela Garza, Margot Cuellar, and Julianita Valdez. His father Jesus was a San Felipe custodian and noted for his fine handwriting during graduation events.
