Wall Street opened with a mixed tone as trading began. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.88 points to 48.76 by 11 a.m. EDT while losers outnumbered gainers on the NYSE, with 463 up, 610 down and 483 unchanged. The NYSE composite rose modestly to 167.17.

The 4-H District 13 dog show will be held Saturday rain or shine. If rain ceases it will be at Star Park at 10 a.m. Otherwise dogs will be shown at the 4-H Barns at Val Verde Fairgrounds.
