Traveler Survives 28 Foot Fall Near Pecos Canyon Rest Area

70 year old Orange resident C B Procell walked away from his car at Pecos Canyon rest area 18 miles west of Comstock late Monday night to stretch and ended up at the bottom of a 28 foot cliff. He sustained multiple abrasions contusions and a fractured elbow and remained hospitalized at Val Verde Memorial Hospital. Deputy Guadalupe Medina said he was found at about 7 20 a m by U S Border Patrol agent John Ketzler after being dropped off the cliff around 11 p m to 1130 p m.

Summer Rec Program Set

The Del Rio City Summer Recreation Program opens Monday with activities for youths 6 to 14 at San Felipe Freshman School and Memorial Elementary. Registration is Friday at 9 a.m. at the campuses. Activities include softball basketball volleyball swimming tennis arts and crafts picnics movies bowling and skating.

Junior College Enrollment Here Exceeds Main Campus

Southwest Texas Junior College reports 628 students enrolled for the first summer session across three South Texas sites. Uvalde lists 228 on the main campus, Del Rio Outreach Center has 274, and Eagle Pass records 126. The first session runs until July with a second session starting July 7 and ending August 18.

JFK and LBJ Also Racists Remarks Stir Debate

Ambassador Andrew Young testified before the House committee that his criticism of Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon as racists also applied to John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. He said racism reflects insensitivity in foreign policy and was not an attack on the presidents. Republicans criticized the remark. Carter disavowed it.

Registration Opens for Beef Referendum Voting in Del Rio

Cattle producers registered on day one for the Beef Referendum to be held July 5 to 15 at the Val Verde Kinney County ASCS office in Del Rio. Registration runs through June 17 with eligibility based on ownership in 1976. County officials note about 150 producers are eligible. absentee ballots available. Intergovernmental Workshop Set Here

The Southwest Intergovernmental Training Center bets on a July 12 to 14 workshop at the Holiday Inn in Del Rio. Instructor Lee Venzor will cover leadership techniques and decision making with 24 hours of training.
