Miss Del Rio Contest Planning Session Set
Preliminary plans for the annual Miss Del Rio contest will be laid Sunday night at 8 o clock in the home of Mrs John Engelking 1605 Ave D Mrs Betty Henderson pageant director announced The pageant is given annually to raise funds for the Del Rio Little League and will be staged in the Del Rio Civic Center again this year to aid the league The current Miss Del Rio is George Lou London a senior student in Del Rio High School who graduated last month Her reign continues until her successor is chosen At the committee meeting Sunday night with Mrs Henderson will be Mrs John Engelking Mr and Mrs W B Robb Mr and Mrs Stewart Robb Mr and Mrs Gene Salmon Mr and Mrs William G London Jr Mr and Mrs H A Rountree Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hildreth and Bob Henderson The contest is traditionally staged in July the time varying Staging awards and allied details are to be discussed at the meeting Sunday night

Rites Set for Del Rio Resident Mrs Refugia Hernandez
Mrs. Refugia Hernandez aged 92 of Del Rio died Friday at home 404 Plaza. Rites Monday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Requiem Mass. Burial in San Felipe Cemetery. Born July 4, 1877 in Saltillo Mexico, she lived in Del Rio since 1901. Survivors include son Ramon Hernandez of San Angelo and daughters Mrs Pablo S Rodriguez of Del Rio and Mrs Cruz H Gloria of Brady plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs Elvira Zapata 66 year old wife of Juan Zapata died at 10 am Saturday. Funeral arrangements at Don's Funeral Chapels were incomplete late Saturday. Survivors include her husband, a son Juan Zapata Je, her parents Mr and Mrs Juan Abrego, brothers Juan Manuel Armando Ricardo Isidro Abrega, and sisters Rafaela Petra Abrega.

Mexican Officials Assist In Stolen Goods Recovery
A horse, saddle, two rifles and two radios reported stolen in the Rocksprings ranching area were recovered after crossing the Rio Grande. Sheriff Werman Richter said Mexican officials aided in finding the items in Sabinas, Mexico, and returning them. No arrest was made and an employee who disappeared May 7 with the Bay horse remains at large. Deputy Julius Lerma led the recovery effort. the thief evaded highways and cut fences on the inland route. He rode through Hamilton Lane country toward the Illo Grande.

Migrant and Head Start Programs Begin In San Felipe District
The San Felipe Independent School District will start the Summer Migrant and Head Start programs on Monday. Registration runs 9 am to noon at all campuses, with buses, snacks, and hot meals provided. The Migrant program, on a 28686 dollar budget, serves about 150 pupils with dozens of teachers aides and drivers. The Head Start program, budget 35300 dollars, operates 8 am to 1 30 pm five days a week with 12 teachers and 12 aides.
