Trail of Fire Keeps Del Rio Fire Crews Busy
A locked brake on a westbound freight train near Comstock sparked a box car blaze and grass fires along the Southern Pacific line from Del Rio to Laughlin AFB. Firefighters from Del Rio SAFE units, Comstock and the military battled flames for hours, extinguishing the last hotspots by dawn. In total, 16 Del Rio volunteers helped contain multiple blazes and respond to vandalism at several fire plugs near Las Vacas, Alta Vista, and Buena Vista. A Vega Verde brush fire and a vehicle engine fire in Del Rio were also reported.

Murder Probe Advances in Slaying of Fuentes
Freestone County sheriff's department continues the murder investigation of Frank Fuentes Sr. The prime suspect, Osborn Keith Cloudt of Dallas, is held on $50,000 bond and is described as unstable. Investigators believe Cloudt possessed the victim's car and the murder weapon, while he denies involvement and references a supposed killer named Wayne. Funeral rites for Fuentes were held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
