Ramon A Retirement Reception Planned in Civic Center
A reception honoring Simon V. Ramon is set in the Kennedy Room at the Civic Center this Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. The public is invited as Ramon retires after 39 years in education. He began in San Felipe ISD, led Del Rio High School, later headed Lamar and Stephen F. Austin elementary schools, and now serves on the local school board. Ramon’s family includes several educators and public servants.

Carmen Vara Hernandez 83 died at home after a heart attack. Born April 16 1921 in Del Rio she worked 25 years at Laughlin Air Force Base. Rites at St Joseph Catholic Church followed by burial at Oak Lawn. survivors include daughters Rosario Wehr and Zonia Hernandez, sister Josefina Hisbrok, numerous Frausto relatives and two grandchildren. Burial under Don's Funeral Chapels.

Police logged several thefts including a bank draft worth 16341.50 from a car on South Main Street and a khaki jacket valued 25. Multiple bicycles, tapes, a camera and audio gear were stolen from homes and stores near Miller Drive Ninth Street Ave. F and Plaza del Sol Mall. An overnight vandalism case saw two shots fired at a residence on Ninth Street damaging windows, curtains, and a clock valued at 500.
