The Dow gained 46 to 2321.15 in the first half hour as trading on the NYSE favored gainers 614 to 413 with 473 unchanged. Volume reached 22.41 million shares at 10 a.m. Blue chips led gains as General Electric rose to 53% while IBM slipped to 160% and Sears Roebuck fell to 50%.

Residents report six inches of water in Becky Martinez’s mobile home and major damage to homes, carpets, and furniture. Authorities closed nine farm to market roads while water wells and the sewage plant were safeguarded.

Yolanda Narren reported a billfold stolen from a public phone at Painter Bus Station after leaving it in use. A resident said an unknown actor took 475 dollars in jewelry from her home on June 3. Glen Earnest Stephens and Gene Woodard were arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle belonging to William A. Harper III, whose 1986 Ford truck was broken into and items valued at 229.95 were stolen.
