Squeaky S Judged grand champion mare at the Quarter Horse Show opening Friday at Del Rio Park. Resting classes Saturday at 2 30 pm. Del Rio Livestock Association sponsors the event with prizes and pot bets.
Funeral services were held in Corsicana for Tom L. Tyson Democratic party leader and state Democratic executive committee secretary who died of a heart attack at his home. Gov Beauford H Jester and other party dignitaries attended. Tyson born August 1904 in Calvert Texas. Burial planned in Calvert Robertson County. Survivors include his widow Avon Luther his parents and a brother Arthur Tyson professor at East Texas Baptist College Marshall.
Paris June 2004 four power foreign ministers met in closed session to discuss American and Russian plans to reunite Berlin. A brief communique gave no progress indicators and no press briefings were scheduled. Earlier talks involved Dean Acheson and Bevin with Schuman. The outlines include four power control of Berlin and city wide elections, with talks resuming Saturday. Vishinsky suggested Moscow might transfer some authority to German civic bodies as bargaining continues. Western powers seek free access by road and rail to Berlin to avoid a new blockade.
Houston Tex June 3 Police hold a 44 year old Hawaiian contractor as a suspect in the 1927 killing and decapitation of Jasper Geo Patrolman Lee Cape. Sheriff Cagle says a warrant is out for the man’s arrest and he will be brought in for questioning. four others have been sent to prison for the case, one earning a life sentence.
L L Schweers Jr named assistant superintendent at Celanese Corporation of America Chemical plant in Bishop Texas his parents said Friday He has three years service with the firm and holds degrees in natural gas engineering and chemistry from A I College Kingsville Del Rio High School graduate 1838.
The Del Rio area Electric Co operative releases bids for 320 miles of floral electtrve lines in Ed wards, Knney and Val Verde counties. Taylor Construction Company of Taylor submitted the low bid at 319669.90 dollars, averaging about 999 dollars per mile. Construction planned for June 11 start, with bids sought on an additional 250 miles in Val Verde and 200 miles in Winter Garden Carrizo Springs Crystal City La Pryory on June 2. Multiple firms submitted bids and Taylor’s was recommended by engineers and the cooperative board for award.
In Abilene Texas on June 21 a double funeral is planned for Mrs. E C Jackson and her son Pvt Talmadge H Jackson who was killed in action in France on August 4 1944. Mrs Jackson died of cancer while at her husband’s bedside. The son’s body arrived April 28 and both will be buried side by side in a local cemetery.
San Angelo reports four polio deaths and 61 cases triggering emergency measures. At Goodfellow Air Force Base officials note statewide anti fly campaign, with spraying and sanitation efforts. The latest fatalities include Jared Smith, 5, of Austin, who died Thursday, and Manneth Burns Jr, 4, of College Station.
District Attorney Couplan A Newton and County Attorney S B Buchanan Jr said Friday they will prosecute trespassers who damaged the private San Felipe Country Club course. For the third time in ten days wheels tore up greens during an incident Thursday night. Club president L A Duke called the damage serious as the course hosts a tournament and stressed the property is leased from the city and not public ground.
Del Rio Park hosts the second day of the Quarter Horse Show with judging starting at 9 am Saturday. Classes include stallions foaled 1947 and later, grand champion stallion, and the Texas grand quarter horse stallion. Open reining at 2:30 pm, with trophies awarded Saturday night.
Mrs B N Moseley 71 of Marshall mother of Mrs Lawrence Merchant of Dallas died Friday in a Dallas hospital after months long illness. She was active in the Methodist Church and served as secretary of the Woman's Missionary Society in the Texas District. Funeral services were held in Dallas and burial followed at Jefferson Texas.
Amede Peter Gianni, founder of Bank of America, died Friday in San Mateo, California from a heart ailment. Born as a peddler, he built the bank into one of the world’s largest by 1946 with assets near 85.7 billion and about 1,000 branches, before retiring in 1945 and chairing as founder. He leaves a son and a daughter.
Mayor Frank Walton announced a citywide fund to finance a fogging machine using DDT crystals and chlorodane to combat polio. The system, operated by Ted Langford, will produce two hundred gallons daily and fog alleys and shrubs. Citizens may contribute at City Hall. Officials urge cleanup of standing water and trash to prevent mosquitoes.

Charles Lee Bland age 23 of Denton was pinned in his gravel truck and killed in a three vehicle crash south of Denton on Thursday. Lawrence Hand a city employee driving another truck and Clyde Teesdale of Argyle sustained injuries.
