In New York the market extended Friday's modest decline. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials fell 10.99 to 1,865.72 by 11 a.m. on Wall Street as losers led gainers at 5-4 among NYSE-listed issues.
National Safe Boating Week runs June 1 to 7 with Flotilla 76 Coast Guard Auxiliary urging ongoing safety. U S District Judge William Wayne Justice in Huntsville said Texas cannot dodge court ordered prison reforms by citing money shortages. He recalled 1981 ruling that Texas Department of Corrections conditions violated cruel and unusual punishment and warned abolition of the agency if changes are unaffordable. TDC Director McCotter offered no comment.
Salazar noted pay increases boost teacher satisfaction and performance amid a heated board vote. Rusenberger and Fawcett opposed the compensation while Barrera Padilla Nino and Estela Lujan supported it. The Rev Dr Lonnie Green abstained after receiving numerous calls praising the victory for elementary pay supplements.

Norma Habicht aged 77 died May 31 in Uvalde with services at Nelson Funeral Home Camp Wood and burial in Rocksprings. Survivors include daughter Veronica Cox sister Eula Koog brother Roy Guest and two grandchildren. Memorial for Connie Cummings of Sonora 13 will be held at St. Ann's Church with burial in Silver City NM. Feliz Torres Sorola 74 formerly of Del Rio rites held in Lamesa with burial there. Survivors include multiple children and siblings. services attended by Simon Torres Sr. and Jr. families.
