San Felipe Springs area residents may experience reduced water pressure today as the Del Rio Water Department continues upgrades to water production facilities. Conserve usage during peak hours from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. today and Wednesday.
The Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on June 9 at 6 p.m. in the Del Rio Civic Center to discuss congregating border town management. Dawn Doyle says the aim is a unified border unit, replacing five districts with one in Laredo, while 24 existing offices stay for at‑facility use. Luis Ramirez will oversee border issues and trucking at each port of entry. There will be no highway changes. Speakers register at 8 a.m. the day of the hearing.
Del Rio joined more than 20 Central and South Texas communities urging the National Weather Service to keep the NEXRAD radar in Hondo rather than move it to a site near New Braunfels. Senator Judith Zaffirini warned the southwestern region could lose coverage if the lone radar is relocated. Dale Reed of the Weather Service explained the modernization plan and benefits of the upgraded system.
Former U S Rep Albert Bustamante is among nine ex lawmakers still not cleared in the House bank overdraft scandal. An AP survey lists nine former and one current member not yet notified of DOJ clearance or refusing to disclose. Bustamante faces a July trial on racketeering charges with his wife in a separate federal indictment.

A Dallas man Antonio Velasquez-Garcia, 39, is to stand trial in federal court Wednesday after allegedly accepting delivery of 322 grams of black tar heroin. The case began with a 1982 GMC at Fagle Pass Port of Entry and involved a middleman who led agents to final destination.
A U S Border Patrol dog named Doc died from poisoning in his Del Rio kennel Monday morning. Doc was part of the first K-9 unit since 1988, valued at over seven thousand dollars, with Mikel the other Malanois. An autopsy and Texas A M Veterinary School tests follow the scene evidence, and the dog will be replaced after the investigation.
City leaders establish the assistant city manager position to liaise with all departments and support the city manager. Carlos Martinez notes duties include administering daily city activities, presenting ordinances and resolutions, and serving as director of personnel while advising the civil service commission and social services.
