U S 277 project to start Sept 5 after delays
Construction on seven and a half miles of U S 277 north of Loma Alta is slated to begin September 5 after eight years of delays tied to endangered Black capped Vireo protections. TxDOT and USFWS resolved issues and the upgrade will replace curves with a modern two lane road with wide shoulders and reduce “rollercoaster” humps. Detours will send traffic around Rocksprings for roughly 12 to 16 months of closure during the seven to eight month rebuild.
