An Eclipse windmill with wooden blades is sought for the Bean Visitor Center at Langeack Bkiles. Donors may write to Langtry or call 915-291-3340. State highway workers can restore wooden portions if only metal parts remain.
Trustees in the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District appointed her as principal and Superintendent RS. Eving assigned her to Lamar. Mrs. Younts said she accepted the post to work more directly with teachers and have closer contact with children. She looks forward to working with children again. Mrs. Younts and her husband Lolly have two daughters Ellen Diminez a kindergarten teacher in San Antonio and Pam a graduate student of Animal Science at Texas A&M University. She also has a grandson Jay 3.
Del Rio firemen from G W Cox Memorial Fire Station battled a pickup truck fire on Cienegas Road at 5:20 p.m. caused by a carburetor gas leak, burning engine wiring, and a separate grass fire on Jasper Street around 8:10 p.m. No cause for the grass fire was determined. units returned about 10 minutes after arriving.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms in Del Rio today, with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures through Thursday. Overnight lows near 70s, highs in the low 90s, southeast winds 10 to 16 mph gusting near storms. High today 89, record high 105 for July and record low 66 for the date. Extended outlook calls for more showers mainly in Coastal Bend and south central Texas, with 80s to 90s highs and 70s finishes along the coast. West Texas foresees clear to partly cloudy and warmer conditions Friday.
At Laughlin Air Force Base a 2 p.m. preliminary military hearing was scheduled for Second Lieutenant James H. Rice Jr. after a Sunday morning incident left 22 year old Steven M. Scherp dead. Rice is held on related charges as the autopsy at Wilford Hall Medical Center seeks the cause of Scherp’s death.
Three men from El Salvador and Mexico, among 41 illegal entrants, were convicted of alien smuggling and set for Aug 3 sentencing. The arrests followed Border Patrol interception near Amistad Dam on May 6 after 34 Salvadorans were found in a rental vehicle and seven others in another car.
Police investigate several thefts and damages after Monday and Sunday burglaries across Del Rio. Victims include Gregory Grejcyk who lost tools and an aquarium, Whaley reports a cement mixer taken from a construction site, a woman’s unlocked car yielded cash and food stamps, while other burglaries damaged a car, a pump home, and a business wall with graffiti. Police say inventory will verify auto parts thefts and other losses.

The two were arrested about p.m.
Teresa Starr Jasper, 23, jailed for contempt in the Wood slaying probe, transferred from Uvalde to Fort Worth Federal Correctional Institute for medical reasons over the July Fourth holiday. She is stepdaughter of convicted killer Charles Harrelson, who is jailed on state charges and named a key suspect. Jasper reportedly sought treatment from a Dallas Fort Worth physician.
Brackettville invites sealed proposals from contractors to provide trash collection. Bids must be received by 5 p.m. July 24 and should state the number of pickup days per week. The city reserves the right to reject any bids. Submissions may be mailed to P O Box 526 or delivered to City Hall.
Luz Corral de Villa widow of Francisco Pancho Villa dies at 89 in Chihuahua Mexico. She married Villa in 1915 and kept his house as a museum after his 1923 death. The AP notes she lived in San Antonio earlier and insisted she was his only legal wife.Villa led the 1910 revolution and faced later defeat before a 1920 pardon.
Korbel argues counties could stay intact without violating the Voting Rights Act while preserving minority representation. Steve Bickerstaff, counsel for the House committee, says county fines must be cut to balance population, warning that keeping surplus population would overpopulate rural counties and risk minority underrepresentation under one person, one vote standards.
