Garcia case before grand jury in February charged for child endangerment
Belinda Medina Garcia arrested January 12 2000 on child endangerment charges. Her eight year old autistic child was found alone in a dirty home with trash and holes in floors. CPS placed the two children with relatives and an emergency foster family. A CPS hearing kept them in care for six months. Garcia said she has started a new job and cleaned up the trailer.

Indictments filed in federal smuggling case in Texas
Dallas men Juan Manuel Alvarez and Esteban Hernandez-Lopez, both 25, were indicted on two counts of transporting illegal aliens. Arrested January 4 in Kinney County, they face up to 10 years and 250000 dollars fine per count. Also named were Alfredo Robles Alejandro and Josephine Contreras, charged with aiding and abetting in Maverick County incident.

EEOC Fort Clark Springs settles sexual harassment suit
The EEOC and Fort Clark Springs Association Inc reach a settlement in the Del Rio Division of the Western District of Texas. Juarez received 5000 dollars and an injunction against sex discrimination. The suit, filed Sept 24, 1998, alleged hostile conduct by coworker John R. Jones. Jones resigned amid claims of ongoing unlawful employment practices since 1995.
