INS in San Antonio struggles to implement new rules, using alternate forms while awaiting regulations from Washington. Officials warn the act is not blanket amnesty, but offers benefits to some families and certain high tech workers.
Judge Carl Pendergrass moves into the third floor office at the Val Verde County Judicial Center after a hard fought election. Born October 29 1943 in Victoria Texas he grew up with his grandfather in Palacios and earned a BBA from Texas A M University in 1965 and a JD in 1969. He served in the Marine Reserves and practiced law with Doug Newton Sr in Del Rio before becoming county attorney and returning to private practice with Victor Roberto.

Fashionably Loud lights up the Paul Pong Theater Saturday January 13 at 7 p.m. Hosts Nayeli Vivanco and Davie Cruz promote the event as the year’s top fashion show with music, lighting, and glamorous outfits. Del Rio's Central Fire Station unveiled two new units for the Fire and Rescue Department. Deputy Chief John Sheedy oversaw placement of a Mini-attack Rescue Command Vehicle with 300 gallon water tank and five-seat capacity, plus a Hackney Heavy Rescue Unit with air bottles and inflatable bags. Both units expand capabilities for dumpster fires, major accidents, and smaller incidents.
