Del Rio community mobilizes for a chicken barbecue to aid Krystal Surles and Kaylene Harris after a Dec 31 1999 knife attack left Harris dead and Surles injured. Event January 23 in Alamo Lumber lot from 11 am to 3 pm with local volunteers and sponsor support. Funds go to a Del Rio National Bank frozen account to cover medical and related expenses.

Killer from staff and wire reports links man to Lexington murder
Tommy Lynn Sells likely worked at Transylvania University on the day Haley McHone was killed in Lexington. An eight hour work invoice shows he was paid for May 13 but did not collect the check. Sells, described as a transient from Del Rio Texas, was later arrested for capital murder of Kaylene Harris and attempted capital murder of Krystal Surles after a New Year’s Eve assault. He reportedly confessed to multiple killings across several states during questioning in Texas. Detectives from Lexington and San Antonio questioned him in Del Rio.
