Street project cuts into San Felipe Grocery earnings

Alex Rodriguez, owner of San Felipe Grocery at Garza and Cantu, says Garza Street paving has slashed weekly sales by 50 to 70 percent. He notes five city vehicles now occupy his lot and the only store access is via Cantu Street. City officials say reimbursement is not possible but will try to assist.

Amistad Lake at highest level in over a decade

Rainfall lifts Amistad to 1113.68 feet with surface area 61 670 acres while water releases run at 989 cubic feet per second. The level sits 3 1/3 feet below conservation pool of 1117.0 feet, at 93 percent capacity. Conservation pool defined by IBWC. Lake once set record low in 1998 at 1058.38 feet and 21 000 acres.

Record rainfall soaks Val Verde County in 2004

In 2004 rainfall shattered norms across Val Verde County with ranchers and tourists noting unprecedented totals. Indianhead Ranch owner Laurent Delagrange logged 44.3 inches by Christmas Eve, far above the 1983 2002 average of 21.23 inches, while 1996 had been bone dry and 1998 brought San Felipe flood damage.
