Texas will add drivers license holders not registered to vote to the jury pool, boosting potential juror numbers in Val Verde County. Officials aim for a cross section of the community, with felons, non citizens, and minors excluded, while licensing offices prompt voter registration during renewals.
Mexico moves to replace old pesos with a one to ten ratio on January 1, with border areas starting earlier. Authorities insist the change is cosmetic, not a devaluation, while banks prepare to swap currency and retailers quote both old and new pesos. High penalties are set for price manipulation as the public adapts to the new notes and coins.
Twelve people were arrested in a joint operation by the Amistad Area Narcotics Task Force Del Rio Police Department Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and U.S. Border Patrol Canine Unit. Charges included public intoxication possession of marijuana possession of drug paraphernalia minor in possession of alcohol and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute with several warrants. All booked in Val Verde County Detention Center and Del Rio Jail.
Francisca Frausto of Midland, 35, was arrested by immigration inspectors at the Del Rio Port of Entry for aiding four undocumented Mexican aliens to enter the United States with fraudulent Midland birth certificates. She pleaded guilty to two counts, received 180 days in prison on one count, and 180 days suspended with a $750 fine and five years probation on the other. her 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 was seized and she remains in U.S. marshal custody.
