Avalos family scholarships aid Rio Grande College students
The Avalos family funds annual scholarships for Sul Ross Rio Grande College students. Claudia Rodriguez received the Avalos family education scholarship and Jessica Gallegos earned the Avalos family nursing scholarship. Rodriguez, who moved with her husband Rogelio to Eagle Pass, graduated Dec. 12, 2015 from RGC with a bachelor’s in education and now works at a Kinder Center seeking an early childhood-6th grade bilingual certification. She plans to give back to the community that supported her. Gallegos, a nurse at a Del Rio elementary school, helped a family obtain vision care, noting she enjoys helping children and that everyone loves the nurse. She sees many cultures and illnesses in her role.

Del Rio investigates fatal shooting of Round Rock man
Del Rio police investigate a fatal shooting at a north side home on Quail Creek Drive. The victim, 22 year old Tanner David Allen Henry of Round Rock, arrived with his girlfriend and a male friend a day earlier. Henry died at Val Verde Regional Medical Center after being shot in the head. Police identified the dead man and notified next of kin. Detectives are handling the case as a potential homicide.
