The stock market edged higher in early trading on Christmas Eve with the Dow at 1,920.139, up 5.76. Gainers led losers 793 to 479 on the NYSE as 484 issues held steady while many investors were away for the holidays.

Items stolen include AM FM cassette players speakers and an equalizer valued in the low hundreds, with one home burglary involving a stereo guitar and blanket valued at 930 dollars. The incidents occurred between evening and early morning hours across blocks on West Dignowity Pierce Martin and Arista streets.
