County okays private jail project vote in Val Verde
Val Verde County Commissioners Court approved a deal with Wackenhut Inc to build and manage a new county jail at the current site. The plan includes relocating the women’s shelter at no cost, keeping current facilities, and leasing land for 150000 dollars for 99 years.

Five Mexico men indicted on drug charges
A Del Rio grand jury returned five indictments against men from Ciudad Acuna and Monclova for marijuana trafficking. Defendants Moreno De La Rosa and Rendon Mendoza, jailed about 2 miles south of Del Rio, faced two counts each with 106 pounds seized valued at 84000 dollars. Balderas Hernandez arrested near the Rio Grande with over 111 pounds valued at 89400 dollars. Co defendants Diaz Flores and Navarro Martinez, both 18 from Monclova, were indicted for conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute after arrest north of Eagle Pass with over 222 pounds. Gabriel Salazar Jr of Eagle Pass charged with possession with intent to distribute and await bond. Ruben Garcia Trejo of Eagle Pass indicted for possession and importation of marijuana. Frausto of San Antonio and Sanchez Hernandez of Allende, Coahuila, indicted on multiple drug charges with concurrent potential penalties. Additional defendants Genaro Robledo Villanueva and Melquiades were named in another indictment.
