MRGDC Panel to Meet On Refunding of CEP
A special meeting of the Ancillary Manpower Planning Board of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Uvalde City Hall to consider refunding the Eagle Pass Concentrated Employment Program. The proposed 1.45 million dollar program would train 800 people across Val Verde Maverick Zavala and Dimmitt counties next year if approved. The committee, formed under Governor’s Office planning directives, will judge past performance to decide program necessity and funding. The local board includes Mayor Pete Knowles and other officials and is open to the public.

Birth of Jose Elias Castaneda in Val Verde Memorial Hospital
Mr and Mrs J Eligio Castaneda welcomed a son named Jose Elias Castaneda born Friday morning at Val Verde Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Eigio Castaneda of Dallas and the maternal grandmother is Mrs T R Hernandez of Del Rio. Paternal great grandparents are Mrs elipa Castaneda and Mr and Mrs Marcelo Hernandez, maternal great grandmother Mrs Carolina G Hernandez. The infant's mother is the former Miss Santa Hernandez.

Deaths: Leo Lancaster 47 Del Rio native dies in Hebbronville
Leo Lancaster a 47 year old native of Del Rio died Monday in Hebbronville. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Carrizo Springs. A World War II veteran, he had worked for Bell Telephone Co in Hebbronville for 20 years. Survivors include his widow Betty Lancaster two sons Mark and Mike Lancaster a brother Roy Lancaster of Del Rio and a sister.

Mrs. Mabel Lackey Services Held Today
Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel F. Lackey age 79 were held at First United Methodist Church Medina with burial at Oak Rest Cemetery under Plummer Funeral Home direction. Water main burst floods part of Del Rio
A water main burst around 8 p m Monday at Avenue E and 11th Street flooded portions of Avenue F for about two hours. The City Water Department repaired the broken main soon after arriving at the scene.
