Late Saturday evening a storage building at 402 Jones St in the San Felipe area near Brown Plaza burned. The Del Rio Fire Department arrived quickly after an 11:36 p.m. call and Capt. John Annipp said no injuries occurred and all residents were accounted for.
Daniel Jalomos Jr. says his May firing from the Del Rio Police Department is part of a wider political move under the new chief. He faced an internal affairs probe after a citizen complaint accusing harassment and abusing authority. An arbitration hearing sought his return to work and back pay, while the city argued there was good reason for termination.
Trustees set dates for the board election and approved the notice of election. Filing opens January 29 with applications at the administration building 205 Memorial Drive. First notice posted December 30 details ballot deadlines for places 1 3 4 and 5.
F David Ortiz announces candidacy for the 83rd Judicial District Judge. A Del Rio native with 18 years as a Texas attorney, Ortiz says the court should run efficiently while citizens are heard and treated fairly. He earned a law degree from Texas Southern University and studied at the University of Texas. He is a partner and shareholder in a local firm.
