Weather summary for Del Rio area notes a partly cloudy weekend into Monday with cool nights. Winds from the north 10 to 15 mph. Sunday high around 60s, Sunday night cooler, Monday mild with highs near 60s. Amistad reservoir readings show slight upticks in elevation and storage. Downstream flow remains steady at 1130 cfs.
Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe announced a 20000 grant from the Department of Community Affairs to Menard to fund part of a 35000 propane air injection system. Mayor Macy Hagood said the stopgap measure will boost gas pressure for about 3000 residents facing heating shortages. HUD and Farmers Home Administration rejected immediate federal aid, citing a two to three month delay.
W E Bill Oglesby of Del Rio was reelected chairman for a second term of the Amistad District covering eight counties. The banquet at Uvalde High School saw awards to Del Rio leaders, including Dan Bus for Award of Merit and others for Den Leader and Scouter awards. Clark D Anderson, former FBI agent, spoke on terrorist networks and aims.

News-Herald staff report southwest Del Rio to convert 1200 feet of a 12-foot deep historic irrigation ditch into a greenbelt park between Pierce and Cochran Streets. City manager Richard Castro, who grew up nearby, called the ditch a constant eyesore and said it had until recently been neglected.
