New Del Rio Brush Bulky Item Pickup Policy Starts
Beginning January 5 1998 Del Rio installs a year round brush and bulky item pickup run five days a week on a first come first served basis. Call the Department of Streets and Drainage at 774 8645 for schedules. Moore Services relinquishes responsibility and residents are charged no landfill disposal fees for eligible items.

County seeks grant for four new fire stations
Val Verde County plans a $428000 grant to fund building four fire stations including Rough Canyon, the warehouse area, Lake Amistad, and Cienegas Terrace, plus purchase of four fire trucks. Rudy Valdez Named Assistant Principal at Del Rio High
Public school board members hired Rudy Valdez Monday night to be an assistant principal at Del Rio High School. Valdez comes from Buena Vista Elementary School where he serves as assistant principal, replacing Lupe Sotelo who was promoted to principal of the Freshman Campus. The vote occurred in open session after an executive session on hiring. The board also directed administration to secure a site for a new elementary school and tabled the audit for 1996 97 until Friday afternoon. Casillas outlined the Academic Excellence Indicator System Report noting state requirements and district performance concerns especially in secondary mathematics and staffing levels. Copies are available at each school Val Verde County Library and the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce.
