Del Rio board leader speaks at Christmas party
Marcia Pryor new president of the Del Rio Board of Realtors addressed the crowd at the board's Christmas party. Letters to Santa project generated many letters. some, written in pencil, could not be printed due to poor reproduction. Editorial assistant Rosario Orozco will review those letters for possible printing later. The Amistad Singers host their annual Christmas concert today at the Paul Pong Theatre with two shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets cost 3 and 1.50, available from chorus members or at the door.

FCC proposes new rules to curb basic cable pricing
The FCC plans to allow local price controls by city or county on basic cable rates and introduce a federal customer service standard. The draft rules, unanimously endorsed, would set regional rate caps and may let communities intervene where over-the-air channels are unavailable or subscriber share is high. Public comment opens in two weeks with final adoption anticipated in spring.

Army Huey Crashes En Route to Saudi Arabia Near Cleveland
A U S Army UH-1 Huey part of a Jefferson City to Houston convoy for Desert Shield crashed in heavy fog about six miles north of Cleveland Texas. All three crew members aboard were killed including pilot 1st Lt Peter J Rose co pilot Chief Warrant Officer 2 Carol L McKinney and crew chief Staff Sgt Dallas R Cooper. The wreck occurred around 9 p m Friday as the four helicopter chalk neared Ellington Field Houston. Army investigators from Fort Rucker Alabama were dispatched and a cause is not yet known.

Daughtreys Present First 100 Years of Val Verde Power Book
Val Verde County researchers Daughtreys spent over two years compiling a history of water and electrical power from 1688 to 1868 with a 1884 Amistad plant addition. Central Power and Light Co. funded nine hard bound copies for the county library Whitehead Memorial Museum and CPL. Charron Rinehart, CPL and library board member, received one copy for the library. more copies will follow for the Whitehead Museum and Val Verde Historical Commission.
