Menard Mayor seeks federal aid for warming relief
Mayor Macy Haygood of Menard Texas appealed to the Community Services Administration for space heaters as 3000 residents face near freezing conditions. HUD and FHA officials in Temple declined emergency funding, citing a two to three month delay, while Haygood and Congressman-elect Tom Loeffler pledged to pursue other federal avenues to ease the gas crisis and fund a propane injection system costing about 30000 dollars.

City Expected to Keep Utilities Commission
Mayor Alfredo Gutierrez Jr. indicated the Del Rio City Council will likely vote in January to retain the Utilities Commission created in 1964 to oversee gas and water. The council extended the commission through January and will decide on its future. Council members Gutierrez and Al Cervantes favor continuing the five member board which oversees the utilities system. City Manager Richard Castro said engineers expect environmental approval for a $1.1 million wastewater project in January.

The county assumes maintenance utilities and insurance after acceptance of the certificate of substantial completion. Del Rio Man Injured In Thursday Vehicle Crash
A 19 year old Del Rio man Julio Hernandez suffered non life threatening injuries in a one vehicle crash on Garza Street late Thursday. He was treated and released from Val Verde Memorial Hospital. Police said brakes may have failed and Hernandez was cited for failure to control. Damages included two Central Power and Light utility poles a chain link fence and cable belonging to Del Rio TV Cable Corp and San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated ISD.
