Public hearing on bilingual program proposals set
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Del Rio National Bank to discuss two proposed additions to the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District bilingual program for next year. District director Al Cervantes says East Side, Lamar and Sam Houston Elementary schools would get basic bilingual programs for grades 1 through 5, with San Houston offering emphasis on oral English for Spanish-speaking prekindergarten students. Police investigated reports of thefts from stores and residences. Alicia Lopez said 13 leather jackets worth 1433 were stolen from the Jay Vee Store on Main Street between 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. James Kent reported 101 in car parts stolen from his apartment lot between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday. Kathie Wilson reported a purse with 2055 in rings taken at the Electric Cowboy. Wenceslao Castellanes said two color TVs and a stereo valued at 1370 were stolen from Del Rio Electric and Appliance. Carlos Perez reported various groceries and a yellow trash can stolen from Green's Stop and Shop.
