AP Farm Writer Don Kendall reports that wool incentive payments rise under the Wool Act as Congress adjusts the price to support the industry. For 1979 the incentive is set at 1.15 a pound, with expected total payments around 36 million dollars amid declining sheep inventories and variable wool markets.
A new bus service starts this morning from the International Transportation depot on Greenwood Street. The route travels east on Avenue F with stops at La Hacienda Restaurant, Church's Chicken, H E B, Perry's Variety, Foodway, The Apothecary, Dr. Carroll's office, Val Verde Memorial Hospital, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Ace Hardware, Gibson's, Dairy Queen, La Villita Shopping Center, Wendy's, Del Rio Bank and Trust, Handy Andy, and Dunkin Donuts.
Del Rio High School JRTOC members plan to raise three flags at Brown Plaza and lower them to half staff in memory of Fred Figueroa who died Monday. Oscar Rodriguez announced the memorial at noon.
Funeral services for 73 year old Fred Figueroa Sr. will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Chapel A Don's Funeral Chapels with a Jehovah's Witness officiating. Burial follows at On Lawn Memorial Park. Figueroa died Monday afternoon after days in intensive care. He was born in Cuatro Cienegas Mexico and lived in Del Rio many years. He served on the Del Rio National Bank board and partnered with his brother in Union Slaughter House before retiring. Survivors include wife Carmen, son Fred Jr., sisters Eva Guarnero Olympia Rodriguez Elisa Figueroa and brother Armando, six grandchildren and several other relatives. Honorary pallbearers listed.
Residents of Box Canyon and Amistad Acres on Lake Amistad north shore pressed Commissioners Court for road maintenance and ownership clarity. County attorney said land deeded as public roadway and parking area remained unaccepted by the county, delaying any decision. The panel tabled the issue for further study as residents offered to fund improvements if the county maintained the road.
Kinney County Commissioners Court accepted Sheldon Park's resignation as Precinct Four constable. Precinct Four awaits court appointment. Court also write-offs 351.75 in ambulance back bills, with six notices sent on a $1.28 bill. FM 3348 land transfer approved to State. Swearing in Jan 1 at 10:30 a.m. for new county officials. Members present included Luna, Johnson, Talamantez, Fuentes, and Seargeant. A special audit meeting is planned for Friday at 10 a.m.
Delia Danette Gonsalez 17 daughter of City Councilman Mike V. Gonsalez was arrested for failure to appear in court on two traffic charges driving without a license and speed excess. Bond posted. She faces a Dec 27 court date for prior citations and a minor accident on Highway 90 West.
Gerhardt Schulle Jr. of San Marcos will speak at the Board of Realtors of Del Rio dinner meeting at the Holiday Inn. Officers of the local board will be installed. Schulle is director of publicity for the Texas Association of Realtors and a former Texas House member.
Del Rio and surrounding area expect partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures today through Wednesday. Overnight lows near the mid 30s, highs in the low 60s Wednesday, southeast winds 6 to 12 mph. This morning’s low was 29 degrees. Sunset at 5 46 p.m. Sunrise at 7 2 a.m.
