Former Maverick County officials plead guilty in bribery case
In Del Rio, former Maverick County Precinct 3 Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales and ex Maverick County Justice of the Peace Cesar Iracheta admitted guilt to federal bribery and bribery related charges. Rosales pleaded to one count receiving a bribe, Iracheta to one count paying a bribe. Man jailed for burglary and assault in Del Rio
Alejandro Esparza, 39, of 175 Greenwillow St., was arrested at 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 4 for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault, a second degree felony. Police say he broke into a Pierce Street home where a woman and her son were, attacked the woman, and were defended by the son. The woman stabbed Esparza with a screwdriver during the confrontation.

City approves second round of international bridge studies
Del Rio City Council approved a contract with S&B Infrastructure Ltd for Phase II studies to assess feasibility of a second international bridge over the Rio Grande linking Del Rio with Ciudad Acuña Mexico. The vote was 5-1-1 with Councilman Wroth opposing and Councilman Sheedy abstaining.
