The Mexican Army patrols international bridge facilities to avert possible unrest after prior riots in Nuevo Laredo. Zocala reports officials are guarding themselves and property, moving important documents away from the area and parking away from the bridge as a precaution.
Mexican reform shifts industrial emission monitoring to Mexico City under Sedesol, with Acuna official Balderas stressing wastewater remains a municipal issue. Texas officials welcome stronger enforcement and funding, noting border staff increases and better organization. Reorganization aimed at tighter enforcement under President Salinas de Gortari begins May and continues into next year.
Commemorations mark Pearl Harbor’s anniversary with low-key events in Del Rio at 3 30 p m led by American GI Forum with Laughlin AFB. Maj. Gen. Gerald L. Prather to MC, honor guard, band, and 21 volleys in memory of fallen veterans. National and local speakers across Parker Colorado Hawaii Lexington Ky. also noted alongside veterans’ tributes.

Del Rio hosts a week of holiday events including St James School Paul Poag Theatre shows on Monday and mid day luncheons by the Del Rio Council for the Arts on Tuesday. The Shanghai Acrobats perform Wednesday and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever returns to the Paul Pony Theatre with a ribbon cutting at Whitehead Museum for the Cadena Nativity exhibit. A Teddy Bear Rally at The Firehouse Saturday invites children and teddy bears to join the festivities. The Festival of Lights parade of lighted boats sails from Black Brush Point Park to Diablo East Marina and remains docked at the marina into the night.
