Jailhouse drug ring charges shake Miami-Dade system
Forty three people including 13 corrections officers were charged in a case alleging a jailhouse drug network led by Eduardo Manzano. Investigators say officers either allowed or helped smuggle marijuana cocaine and other contraband into the Miami-Dade Pretrial Detention Center and Turner-Guilford Knight Correctional Center in exchange for cash jewelry car repairs and other favors. The U S attorney and state attorney described a coordinated probe spanning local state and federal agencies. Manzano allegedly paid officers to access phones drugs food and clothing inside the facilities. Seventeen additional suspects face pending indictments as the case unfolds.
