Country star David Frizzell packed the Paul Pong Theatre for a Performing Arts benefit for the Del Rio Police Officers Association. Also, Del Rio seeks an assistant city manager with applications through early January 1991.
Jose Angel Martiarena a Garfield Texaco owner was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for money laundering tied to a drug proceeds scheme. His wife Elida received four years probation as the couple faced multiple counts from a June 20 raid. daughter Monica and son-in-law Julio faced separate outcomes.
Ed McCarson, long time Comstock storekeeper, recalls his first archaeological: a 79 year life beginning with a cave skull found by three boys during a rainstorm. He later helped UT archaeologists, cataloging paintings and artifacts across west Val Verde County.
Dig pioneers in Val Verde County include Ed McCarson Jack Laughlin Martin King and Dr Frank M Setzler in a late 1930s archeology project cosponsored by the Smithsonian Institute and the National Museum. Setzler later became curator of the National Museum in Washington D C.

The Texas Historical Commission asks the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to join negotiations with the General Services Administration over plans for a new federal courthouse. GSA will lease space and has no construction funds, while the state agency accuses GSA of violating historic protection laws by not notifying them about abandoning the old building.
Three of six men charged in a jail break attempt at Val Verde County Jail pleaded guilty in federal court. Daniel Munoz, 20, Del Rio, admitted conspiracy to escape after holding hacksaw blades for others to cut through a skylight. Other defendants, Juan Jaime Alvarado, 21, Ciudad Acuna, and Ricardo Ramos Lopez, 25, Mexico, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to escape in exchange for counts dropped. Clark, 23, Del Rio, admitted conspiracy after hiding a blade. Remaining pair Padilla and Reyna Alaniz face January trial. Munoz, Clark, and Alvarado Herrera face February sentencing.
