Stocks were edging upward in active trading today with the Dow Jones industrial average up 2.81 at 1,950.08. On the NYSE gainers led decliners 684 to 682 with 495 unchanged as noon figures showed a narrow advance.

Border Patrol Official Jerry Goodman described a shooting as a common drug crossing area and noted no narcotics were found at the scene. He suggested criminals threw drugs into the Rio Grande. Martin praised Mexican officials for quick action and said letters of thanks would be sent.
A Canon Street resident was roughed up near West Martin Street at about 1 10 a m after four males assaulted him and stole from him. A business on Avenue F lost 1900 in silver coins and valuables between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. A shop on Avenue F saw a rear door pry and theft of camera, coins, cash, knives and a radar detector valued at 1977 40 Almeda reported 1600 in goods taken from a store through the women’s bathroom wall. A service station on Avenue F was burglarized between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Eduardo reported the incident to police. A lumber firm reported 438 64 in building supplies stolen by deception to Trinidad Arismendes who placed orders on November 10 and 11 and had supplies delivered to a Fifteenth Street address. Arismendes later denied placing or receiving the goods. A resident on La Grande Street reported a 900 vehicle stolen between Sunday and Monday with no engine.
The Del Rio Council for the Arts hosts its third annual Holiday Wreathmaking Workshop at the Firehouse on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon led by Jim Bob McMillian. The $10 class requires students to bring a wreath form and materials. registration and info are available at the Firehouse or by calling 775-0888.
