Charles Lane of Del Rio won 1324 in the first Texas Lotto drawing by missing one number. He bought the ticket at Pepe's Convenience Store and plans to spend the money for Christmas. Lane, a retired railroad conductor, joined 86 state winners and noted his birthday method for selecting numbers.
In Austin, 65 year old Janie Kallus of Schulenburg claimed the states first lotto jackpot of 21,760,794 after picking all six numbers in order. She will receive 20 annual payments of about 1,088,000 each. Comptroller John Sharp presented the first installment noting the order matched the draw though it has no effect.
Crowds gathered at City Hall in Ciudad Acuna to challenge the removal of three Calle Hidalgo vendors from near the bridge. Efren Lira Fernandez, head of social communications, said a solution would be found today but would likely exclude reinstatement on those blocks. The expelled vendors fear losing tourist sales as business owners along the street urged the action.
A green 1965 Galaxy 500 driven by Natividad Salazar failed to stop at a red light on Main Street, striking a white Buick Rivera driven by Jane Pratt and then hitting a Honda Civic driven by Betty Breckenridge. Pratt and Breckenridge were uninjured. Salazar was hospitalized in guarded condition, with later reports improving.
A B 1B bomber from Dyess Air Force Base crashed in the Davis Mountains near Valentine Texas with four air crew aboard. A helicopter from Fort Bliss carried a possible survivor to an El Paso hospital while officials searched the rugged, freezing high desert for others. Rescuers and air units surrounded the site as embers and smoke rose from the crash.
Del Rio will host a city run giant Christmas greeting card display along Avenue F in front of the Civic Center. The project, powered by city electricity, invites businesses clubs and organizations to participate with two or three dimensional cards from now until December 20. Cards must be lit and carry a season's greeting with a signature.

Texas Lottery reports an estimated two million dollar jackpot for Wednesday night after a $21.7 million prize was awarded. Janie Kallus of Schulenburg received the first of 20 payments of $1,088,000 from the Saturday draw. Lottery sales hit a record $7.1 million Saturday as tickets total $38.6 million since November 7.
